Did you know that weight training is beneficial for everyone?

Weight training is a type of strength or resistance training that improves an individual’s strength and endurance. Many people think this sort of exercise is only done in the gym but it can also be done at home.

Why do I need to do weights training if I’m not a bodybuilder, you may ask? Well, weight training builds strength, flexibility, and mobility, which we all need in our day-to-day lives. Building up muscle mass in our whole body can allow us to move, live, and feel better.

It also…

  • Decreases the risk of falling in people over 50
  • Increases bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and osteopenia
  • Decreases the risk of fractures from osteoporosis
  • Decreases risk of getting injured
  • Improves mental health
  • Can help manage pain

You might choose to do weight training in a gym or in one of the many other ways. You can use your own body weight as the “weight” in your exercises or simple equipment such as a theraband, handheld weights, or a resistance band. However, it is important to use the amount of weight that you feel comfortable with, and then you can always increase it as you get stronger.
