Ankle Sprain, Who hasn’t had one?

In December 2022 our team completed a training course updating us on the most recent research on the diagnosis and treatment of ankle sprains!.

Another study showed that ankle sprains have a very high rate of recurrence, probably the highest of all injuries. Up to 50% of ankle sprains end up with chronic symptoms including ongoing instability or osteoarthritis.

The good news is rehabilitation exercise has been found to reduce the risk of re-injury at 12 months by 50%.

As always our training course emphasised the old adage, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”

There is a lot we can do to accurately diagnose and effectively treat any ankle sprains to speed your return to sport or other activities, as well as help prevent any long-term issues occurring.

We also have some cool
new exercises to help our clients recover even better than before.
One example is the 3 rockers walking:
1. Take single steps starting by pulling toes up as far as you can before your foot touches the ground.
2. Touch the ground heel first and roll all the way onto your toes, lifting your heel up as far as you can. Continue through with the next foot in the same way.
3. This exercise helps get your muscles used to controlling and coordinating the whole ankle and foot again after injury.
If you have a previous ankle issue that is continuing to trouble you, there is a lot we can do to help you overcome it.
