Are you experiencing Back Pain?

Back pain is often frustrating and mystifying. There may be no apparent reason why your back suddenly “breaks down.” Twisting quickly, doing up a shoelace or just a sneeze may produce severe and debilitating pain in your back. Obviously these actions themselves do not cause the problem otherwise it would have happened thousands of times before. Back pain in these instances  is most often caused by an accumulation of stresses over a lot period of time. The insignificant body action being performed when the pain occurs is usually the straw that breaks the camels back.

In most cases, back pain is not serious and will improve in time, however, to ease your pain and speed up your recovery, there are a few simple steps you can take:

Keep moving: moderate activity such as walking and performing everyday tasks can help alleviate discomfort
Pain relief: Panadol or nurofen can provide some relief or in some cases your doctor may also recommend a muscle relaxant. It is important to seek professional opinion before you start taking a cocktail of tablets, especially if you are already on certain medications
Manual therapy: this can involve a mixture of massage, mobilisation and manipulation. It is highly advisable to have these carried out by a qualified health professional
Stretching and hot/cold packs: with guidance these can help with a speedy recovery
