Last week we spoke about the benefits of youth resistance training! However as always some risks include:
- Overtraining
- Burn out
- Early specialisation
- Poor movement skills
- Drop out
Overall, the most important consideration is that each individual experiences growth and development and different points so that each training program must be highly-individualised. Pathways must be developed to encourage a broad and early sampling of a range of motor skills to help prevent burn-out and poor movement skills outside of a specific sport. Additionally, the programs must have the health and well-being of the child as the central tenet. If you would like assistance in developing an appropriate plan for your little athlete, don’t hesitate to contact us at Back to Health Physio in Newport, our goal has always been movement for life!
