Muscle cramps

Are sudden muscle spasms and cramps waking you up from your rest or sleep?

Muscle cramps are sudden and involuntary contractions and can be quite painful and debilitating. There are several causes of muscle cramps, including dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, muscle fatigue, and poor circulation.

How to prevent muscle cramps:

– Stay Hydrated
Stay well hydrated and maintain a balanced diet that includes sufficient electrolytes such as sodium, potassium and magnesium.

– Stretch
Stretching before and after exercise can also help prevent muscle fatigue and cramps.

What do you do if you do experience a muscle cramp?
Gently stretching the affected muscle slowly and applying heat or ice can help alleviate the pain.

Often the muscles that cramp are being overworked in your day due to biomechanical issues that could be helped with the right exercises.

If you experience frequent or severe muscle cramps, it’s important to seek medical attention. At Back to Health Physiotherapy we can help identify the underlying cause of your cramps and develop a treatment plan to address it.
