Can 10 Minutes of Core Work Ease Back Pain?

Chronic low back pain affects millions of people globally and can feel like a constant companion that limits daily activities. But what if something as simple as 10 minutes of exercise could help ease that pain? Lets dive into some research findings.

A recent study explored the impact of a 10-minute bodyweight core stabilisation program on people with chronic lower back pain. They found a noticeable improvement in back pain sensitivity immediately after individuals completed the exercises. Participants essentially felt less pain after moving.

The concept behind this is called “exercise-induced hypoalgesia”. It refers to the way physical activity can temporarily reduce pain perception.

It’s Important to recognise that the core exercises used within this study were low-impact, bodyweight-based, and had no adverse effects—making them safe to try.

However, whilst this does not guarantee long-term relief or address the root causes of back pain, it does suggest that regular core activity can be part of a well-rounded strategy for pain management.

At our clinic, we often encourage patients with chronic lower back pain to begin gentle movement as a way to shift away from pain-focused fear and toward confident activity. This study supports that approach.
