The back is one of the most common areas we treat as physiotherapists. It can affect all ages, young and old.
What can cause back pain?
- Muscle or tendon injuries
- Wear and tear on the cartilage between joints
- Risk factors such as poor posture or being overweight
- However, 85% of the time, our back pain is non-specific and there is no identifiable cause.
So what can help ease my back pain?
You can try to be aware of your pain and maintain a routine with gentle exercise, pain medication, and good posture. However, having a simple consultation with your physiotherapist would be even more beneficial.
Physiotherapists examine your spine, hips, and pelvis to see how they work alongside your muscles and joints. This allows them to assess what is causing your back injury. They will then draw up a recovery plan to help get you back to your full function.
Recovery can often be a simple solution. But we need to understand the foundations to get you back on your feet. Often, simple and effective exercises or some activity modifications are the basis of treatment.
