Get Ready for Little Athletics This September!
Spring is around the corner, which means so is the start of the 2025 to 2026 Little Athletics season! With registrations opening and excitement building, now’s the perfect time to prepare your young athletes for a safe, fun, and rewarding season.
What Is Little Athletics?
Little Athletics is a fun, inclusive weekly program for children and teens, offering a mix of running, jumping, throwing, and more. It’s designed to help kids aged from 3 to 20 years build confidence, motor skills, and a love for movement through track and field activities in a friendly, supportive environment.
When Does It Start?
Many centres in NSW begin their season in September. While exact dates vary depending on the centre, late September is a common start time across the state.
How to Get Ready (and Stay Injury-Free)
- Register early: Secure your spot and benefit from early-bird offers.
- Gear up smartly: Invest in comfortable, supportive shoes. Most centres have rules on spikes (e.g., not allowed for younger age groups) sutherlandlac.org.au.
- Warm up well: Simple dynamic routines like light jogging, arm swings, and leg stretches can help prevent strains. Remind your little athletes the importance of warming up!
- Rotate activities: Alternate sprinting, jumping, and throwing drills to reduce repetitive stress.
- Tune in to rest and recovery: Encourage hydration, balanced nutrition, and rest days, especially during the first weeks.
Participating in Little Athletics helps children develop skills, build friendships, and foster a love for active movement in a safe setting.
